Tōru, japanischer Komponist, * Tokio 8. 10. 1930, ✝ ebenda 20. 2. 1996; benutzte in seinen Werken avantgardistische (westliche) Kompositionstechniken (Musique concrète, seit 1960 serielle Verfahren) unter Verwendung traditioneller japanischer Musikinstrumente. Er komponierte Orchesterwerke, darunter »Requiem for strings« (1967), »Novembersteps I« für Biwa, Shakuhachi und Orchester (1967), »Twill be twilight« (1988), »Visions« (1990), »How slow the wind« (1991), »Spirit Garden« (1994), »Spectral Canticle« für Violine, Gitarre und Orchester (1995), Kammermusik, Filmmusik, Musik für Theater und elektronische Musik.
